Over the past two months Orange Grove Vet has been running our very own pet sterilisation campaign. The campaign has focused on raising awareness among pet owners about the benefits of spaying and neutering their pets.
One of the major benefits of sterilisation is eliminating the risk of unplanned litters in sterilised animals and therefore reducing the number of unwanted animals.
For the fourth year running, Orange Grove Vet participated in non-profit organisation, Animal Allies’, annual Spay Day campaign. The month long campaign aims to sterilise as many animals as possible from informal settlements in Gauteng. However before any animal is sterilised, the owner must give consent and this is why the Animal Allies staff devote a great deal of time building relationships & educating pet owners to the importance & benefits of sterilisation for their pets.
This year, three dogs Bhuba, Spike and Spotty, from the Katlehong township, South of Johannesburg, were brought through to be sterilised free of charge at Orange Grove Vet. We commend Animal Allies for their ongoing efforts in tackling this issue in our local communities. Building relationships with communities is key to changing perceptions and improving the lives of these animals.
That being said, Spay Day cannot only be observed once a year & Orange Grove Vet will continue to partner and assist Animal Allies and other Non-Profit Organisations in their efforts!
