This year, in the spirit of Mandela Day on Saturday 18 July, Orange Grove Vet reached out to the non-profit organisation, Animal Allies, to assist with the sterilisation of animals from Cosmo City, an informal settlement in the west of Johannesburg.
Over the past seven years, Orange Grove Vet has been part of Animal Allies, annual Spay Day campaign. Unfortunately due to the National Lockdown, we were unable to help earlier in the year. Happily, this week, three dogs Smile, Viky, and Zoe, were brought through to be sterilised free of charge at Orange Grove Vet.
Animal Allies is a fantastic non-profit organisation working with informal settlements across Gauteng in need of basic veterinary care for their pets. In these areas, many animals are not sterilised, which leads to unwanted animals becoming strays, perpetuating the problem of overpopulation. By not only sterilising & vaccinating pets but also educating owners on how to care for their pets, Animal Allies has greatly improved the lives of many pets in these communities where there are very few resources. Thank you to Dr. Dina Mannix, vet nurse Sr Vanessa, kennel assistant Simon for assisting in Mandela Spay Day 2020.
